PGLDN employees hand over of relief goods to IDPs at Sapad, Lanao del Norte

Morning of June 7, the men and women of the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte were busy as bees as they were loading relief packs for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking shelter in the Municipalities of Sapad and Kapatagan. In Sapad, most of its IDPs come from the Municipality of Marantao, Lanao del Sur just 19.1km away from the City of Marawi. Mr. Hassan Macaraya together with his family travelled the 153 km route for more than 15 hours passing Malabang, Lanao del Sur to Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte before the reaching Sapad Municipality. On a peaceful day the travel time will only take 3 hours and 26 minutes.

Local Government Officials of the Municipality of Sapad welcomed the relief operation headed by Vice Mayor Rudy Rick B. Patalinghug on behalf of Mayor Paruk U. Asis. Vice Mayor Patalinghug is thankful to Governor Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo for the relentless support given to all Municipalities, like Sapad which these IDPs consider as one of the sanctuaries in the Province of Lanao del Norte after fleeing the on-going conflict between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Maute-ISIS inspired terrorist group in Marawi City.

Provincial Governor Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo is constantly monitoring the Provincial Relief and Medical Operations of the Provincial Government to see to it that all municipalities of Lanao del Norte with IDPs will be given the necessary assistance to cater the needs of the displaced families.

Sapad Municipal Councilor Carol Tijing and Emilia Paler, head of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and her staff joins the relief operation of the PSWDO together with the Provincial Governor’s Office-Community Affairs Division (PGO-CAD) in distributing the relief packs each containing 6 kilos of rice, 4 cans of sardines and 4 cans of tuna. A total of 131 registered and validated displaced families received the goods inside the Municipal Hall.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office answered the needs of the IDPs taking refuge in the Municipality of Kapatagan where 37 registered and validated displaced families received relief goods from the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte with the help of Municipal Mayor Barry Baguio, who took time despite of his hectic schedule to personally hand over relief goods to IDPs in his Municipality.
