The Provincial Population’s Office of Lanao del Norte initiates the 3 day Kalalakihang Tumutugon sa Responsibilidad at Obligasyon sa PAmilya (KATROPA) Sessions. This activity is crafted especially for the male employees of the Provincial Government who are married and of reproductive age with wives who are within the range of 18-49 years old. In these sitting men were taught about Family Planning, Gender Sensitivity and RA 9262 otherwise known as An Act Defining Violence Against Women and Children on November 27-29, 2017 at Macapagal Training Center and then in Sangguniang Panlalawigan Conference Room.
Mrs. Ananette B. Daniel, Head of the Provincial Population Office, explains that KATROPA is designed to help assist couples achieve their fertility goals and exercise their reproductive rights. This initiative also aims to equip the provincial employees with the essential information about reproductive health and family planning. KATROPA initiative as well promotes gender equality and women empowerment.
During the session the participants are clarified of the myths and misconceptions about Birth Control Pills, Vasectomy and Tubal Ligation, and that they should not always believe on the things what their neighbour or elders say. People should consult their local doctors in the Rural Health Centers or even the PPO office to clarify the misunderstandings. Participants were also shown diverse ways to prevent unwanted pregnancy. This will help the couples plan for the future of their children and economically sustain the education and other necessities of the children.
The employees learned the necessary knowledge and skills on maternal and child health in order that they would be personally effective in making decisions about them and their family’s health, personal development, and other related issues and concerns; and they can be mobilized as advocates from the ground for the development of needed policies and programs on maternal and child health.
