PHO handles Mass Drug Administration in Kapatagan

PHO handles Mass Drug Administration in Kapatagan.

On July 24, 2017, PHO conducted Mass Drug Administration in Kapatagan East Central School. Dr. Melania A. Untao joined by Vice Governor Maria Cristina N. Atay on behalf of Governor Imelda “Angging” Quibranza-Dimaporo, this activity is to combat parasitic diseases by giving treatment to grade 1 students in line with the Department of Health campaign “Oplan Goodbye Bulate”.

The drugs that were administered to these children are vaccines to prevent measles and protection against Tetanus and Diphtheria. Children are vulnerable to these types of diseases through this program it aids on assuring the well-being and healthy condition of the youth by preventing malnutrition which the School Principal, Raquel J. Dela Peña, ED.D positively agreed.

432 children were also administered with 400 mg of Albendazole, a medication that targets and destroy young parasitic worms and its eggs and 50 mg of Diethycarbamazine Citrate, a treatment for Filiarasis that can cause fever and swelling in the area of the body where the worms are present. These medications are given for free and at the same occasion, parents were encouraged to regularly visit the health center in their area for proper monitoring and administering of the medicines to their children 2 years old and above.

Before taking the medicines doctors and nurses asked the parents, teachers and the children if they have already eaten; for these medicines can cause stomach pain when the stomach is empty. Parents were assured by the medical experts not to worry when such problem occurs for it will be gone after few minutes.

The Quibranza-Dimaporo Initiative is always in line with all the national government’s program in providing the basic services to the people of the province of Lanao del Norte. Provincial Governor Imelda “Angging” Quibranza-Dimaporo sees to it that the people of the province receive all the necessary care; giving importance to the youth, elderly and the PWDs. The Especial Mass Based Program was created by Governor Angging to address all these issues by Bringing the Government Closer to the People. Ending malnutrition in the province is one of the utmost concerns of the provincial government. PIO-LDN
