The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) of Lanao del Norte assembled members of the Provincial Emergency Response Unit at Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium in the Municipality of Tubod for the 5th ERU Congress, scheduled on November 22-23, 2017.
On the first day, an estimated of more than 8,000 participants from the Municipalities of Kapatagan, Lala, Baroy and Tubod have gathered to participate in the event.
2nd District Representative, Congressman Abdullah “Bobby” Dimakuta Dimaporo discussed to members of ERU in order to lessen or minimize accidents brought by fire or any damages to houses that caused injuries or sometimes death to members of the family, the Congressman urged the Municipalities through the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to strictly implement the application of building permit before construction.
The Municipal Government should discourage the construction of houses along areas that are considered dangerous and as well check if the owner complies with all the necessary requirements before issuing the building permit.
Those who will not comply will be dealt accordingly. These measures were made by the legislatures of the country to secure the safety of the citizens. The Congressman even suggested that the owners of the land who have allowed the construction of houses without complying with the necessary requirements shall be sanctioned.
In addition, Congressman Bobby asked the participants to help monitor the activities of their residence within their barangay and report to the PNP and AFP immediately if there are unusual activities going on. Giving example to what had happened in Marawi. The residence of the city was too complacent of the activities of the local terrorists called Maute. They never thought that the Maute terrorist group is capable of doing such terroristic acts in their own city.
Provincial Governor Imelda “Angging” Quibranza-Dimaporo cites that the climate today is not the same before. The effect of climate change is real as it can be seen and felt every day. “Who caused this climate change? It is us, because we abused Mother Nature,” said the Governor.
The Governor reminds the participants that they were not only trained to respond when natural calamity occurs but as well response to accidents and any other life threatening situations as first responders.
Governor Angging told the members of the ERU to keep an eye on those trucks that throw garbage on our streets and rivers. “Get the plate numbers and other markings then report it to authority for proper actions.”
The Governor expressed his appreciation for the sincerity of these men in responding to calamities or any disaster that strikes the province. Even though these men are volunteers but they are ready rise above the situation when needed. “The Province is thankful for you have unselfishly volunteered yourself in this organization.”
