On October 30, 2017, SM Foundation Incorporated-Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan, Harbest AgriBusiness Corporation, DTI-Go Negosyo, Department of Agriculture-10, Department of Social Welfare and Development-10 and the Office of the 2nd Congressional District together with the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte and the Office of the 1st District Representative merged to launch the Farmers Training Program in Barangay Nangka in the Municipality of Balo-i, Lanao del Norte. This is to facilitate a season long training on vegetable and short term fruit production to empower farmers on new and adaptable technologies on farming.
2nd District Representative, Congressman Abdullah “Bobby” Dimakuta Dimaporo made sure to attend the important event despite of his hectic schedule. The 2nd District Congressman encouraged the participants to take this program seriously and to give their full participation in order to acquire essential knowledge that they could use or utilize after the training.
The Maranaos are mostly entrepreneurs, the tribe has already established business with the Chinese and Arab merchants even before the Spanish came to shore. Congressman Abdullah mentioned that large Maranao community are engaged in trade in the Capital City of Manila and other major cities of the country. This is what the good Congressman inspires to do by helping out his fellow Maranaos to live a fruitful life.
The fertile soil and climate of Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte provides the perfect location to sow agricultural farm products. This is where SM Foundation Incorporated-Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan and Harbest AgriBusiness Corporation will came into place. SM Foundation will provide all the needed materials such as seeds and other expenses and the Harbest AgriBusiness Corporation will do its fair share by imparting the technical knowledge and expertise to the participants in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
“Walang magugutom kung mayron tayong tanim sa ating bakuran, (No one will get hungry if we have plants (edible) in our backyard),” this is what Mr. Arsenio “Toto” Barcelona, President of Harbest AgriBusiness Corporation, said to the participants during the program. Mr. Barcelona challenged the beneficiaries to be persistent in attending each lecture and other activities every Thursday of the week until the end of the program. He is confident that all the two hundred (200) selected beneficiaries from Marawi City who are evacuees will learn the essentials needed to sustain in the vegetable and fruit production throughout the training.

Provincial Governor Imelda “Angging” Quibranza-Dimaporo was delighted to see that various agencies and organizations have come forward and worked together to provide assistance to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Marawi who have suffered so much and to let them feel that there are private groups like SM Foundation Incorporated, Harbest AgriBusiness Corporation and other NGOs who are generous enough to express their sincerity by taking care of the IDPs.
