Tubod, Lanao del Norte – More than three thousand residents of Lanao del Norte converged at the cavernous Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) gym, in capital town Tubod for the live viewing of Pacquiao-Mayweather mega-fight on May 3, 2015.
The free pay-per-view event was hosted by the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte.
The boxing bouts were shown over a giant LED wall that delivered crisp and high-quality video broadcasted live from the entertainment capital of the world – Las Vegas.
“We’re very thankful to Governor Khalid Dimaporo for this free viewing of Pacquiao’s fight. I also brought along many residents of my barangay so we can cheer together for Pacquiao”, expressed Brgy. Chairman Jamil Maruhom of Brgy. Malasalug, Sapad town.
For the last two months, the provincial government was deep in negotiations with CignalTV, Inc. for the live viewing of ‘The Fight of the Century’ between Philippine’s boxing superstar Manny ‘ PacMan’ Pacquiao and undefeated American fighter Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, Jr.
After 12 rounds, Pacquiao failed to dethrone Mayweather that would have given the American boxer his first-ever loss. But despite the result, Lanao del Norte residents were still very impressed with the unrelenting attacks of Pacquiao that made the fight more exciting for boxing fans worldwide.
“People always prefer fighters that give it all in the ring and not ran and back-pedalled like what Mayweather did in this fight”, said Information Officer Lyndon Calica.
The provincial government has also lined-up numerous events for its colorful celebration of its upcoming 56th ‘Araw ng Lanao del Norte’ celebration on June 26 to July 4, 2015. VNL/PIO-LDN
