Tubod, Lanao del Norte – With the whole month of March celebrated worldwide as International Women’s Month, the provincial government of this peace-loving province is conducting an information drive to promote women’s health among its residents.
Among the health concerns highlighted by Lanao del Norte LGU through its Provincial Health Office are the early detection of breast cancer, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, High-blood, and HIV-AIDS.
“We need to raise awareness on these top killer diseases because early detection and prevention is the key”, explained Dra. Jamaica Dimaporo-Umpa, Provincial Health Officer (PHO).
Among the towns identified for the Information caravan are Balo-i, Kauswagan, Kolambugan, Tubod, and Kapatagan.
The Women’s month celebration here in Lanao del Norte was officially launched on March 9 during the flag ceremony program at the provincial capitol grounds. A raffle draw of household appliances and kitchen utensils highlighted the opening rites.
Other topics of the Information Caravan include artificial contraceptives available in Rural Health Units, Gender Sensitivity Program and various services offered by Lanao del Norte’s well-equipped provincial hospitals.
Doctors from PHO also conducted free check-up for the participants during the caravan while free medicines were also distributed by members of the medical team.
Different women’s organizations, AFP and PNP personnel, including provincial employees joined the mangrove planting activity spearheaded by the Provincial Women’s Organization under the PSWDO. The environmental preservation activity was held on March 13, 2015 at Brgy. Kawit, Kauswagan town this province.
The provincial culmination program for the Women’s month celebration is set on March 25, 2015 at the sprawling MCC gym. VNL/PIO-LDN
