Tubod, Lanao del Norte – As part of National Women’s Month Celebration that seeks to increase awareness on issues concerning women and their continuing fight for equality, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte (PGLDN) hosted a province-wide Women’s Football Day, Football Clinic and Festival of Football on March 22, 2015.
The one-day event is spearheaded by PGLDN under its ‘Kabataan Sigurado’ program initiated by Governor Khalid Dimaporo. This sporting activity is coordinated by the Iligan-Lanao del Norte Football Association (ILNOFA).
More than 40 girls aged 15 years old and below from different towns of the province eagerly joined the football training and exercises held at the world-class Football Field, MCC sports complex, Brgy. Sagdan, Tubod town.
The participants were trained by technical staff from the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) with coaches from ILNOFA assisting the young footballers.
“We are very happy with this turn-out. It shows that many girls are indeed interested in this sport. We may find young athletes here in Lanao del Norte who would qualify to try-out for the Malditas (women’s national football team)”, expressed ILNOFA President Lemuel Mapula.
The event was facilitated by the Provincial Community Affairs Office (PCAO) through its Provincial Sports Coordinator, Nelson Lasola.
For his part, Provincial Boardmember Harris Ali is giving the sports program of provincial government his full support as Chairman of the Committee on Sports of the Sanggunian Panlalawigan.
The provincial leadership led by Governor Dimaporo is known among local governments as a firm believer of the Filipino athlete and a solid advocate of all kinds of sporting disciplines from track and field to motorsports.
For this training program, PGLDN provided for the allowance and food of the organizers and trainers of this highly-anticipated activity. LAR & VNL/PIO-LDN.
