A group of children show off their dance moves during the Modern Dance contest held as part of the Children’s Congress organized by the provincial government of Lanao del Norte.

Tubod, Lanao del Norte – With the recent signing of Republic Act 10661 by President Aquino effectively changing the National Children’s Month from October to November, the provincial government of Lanao del Norte through its Provincial Social and Development Office (PSWDO) organized a Children’s Congress at its world-class MCC complex, in capital town Tubod.

The event was attended by more than 600 daycare children from different towns of this progressive province.
A total of 15 towns joined in the annual congress with each municipality sending their respective federated daycare workers to accompany their delegation of daycare children.
During the event, each municipal delegation presented a special number to showcase the varied talents of the children.
“It makes me happy to see these cute little kids play and having fun while learning to socialize and interact with other children. Let’s support these children and help build a brighter future for them”, expressed Vice-Governor Ma. Cristina Atay.
Another highlight of the Congress were the talent contests. The contests include a singing competition (solo and chorale categories), modern dance, and draw and tell. In the Draw and Tell contest, art kits are provided to the contestants.
Winners for each contest received cash prizes from the provincial government of Lanao del Norte. Boardmember Mac Dibaratun also three thousand pesos as cash prize to the winners.
In the Modern Dance contest, the group from Balo-i town won 1st prize, with SND receiving 2nd prize, while Maigo got 3rd prize.
In the Draw and Tell contest, Bacolod won 1st place followed by Magsaysay as 2nd place and Tubod 3rd place.
In the Singing  competition (Solo category), the singer from SND won first prize, with Magsaysay bagging the 2nd prize and Kauswagan receiving the 3rd prize. For the Chorale category, SND again won the top spot, with Kolambugan and Kapatagan declared as 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
According to the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), Republic Act 10661 mainly changed the Children’s month from October to November. This law also seeks to instill the importance of protecting the rights of the children in the minds of the Filipino people.
The theme for this year’s Children’s month celebration is “Komunidad at Pamahalaan Magkaisa, Pang-aabuso sa Bata Wakasan na!”. LAR & VNL/PIO-LDN
