Tubod, Lanao del Norte – The province Lanao del Norte is once again hosting the anticipated Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Tournament as one of its Mindanao Leg. This nationwide tennis competition aims to discover and develop budding tennis standouts into top-caliber athletes who could potentially represent the country in future tournaments abroad.
The tennis matches were held at the clay courts of world-class Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) sports complex in capital town Tubod, this province.
This is the fourth time that Lanao del Norte hosted this grass-root level tennis tournament. The six-day contest started on May 4 until May 9, 2015.
Among the winners of the Lanao del Norte leg were Nash Agustines from Oroquieta City as Champion and John Christopher Sonsona from Tubod, Lanao del Norte as runner-up (10 years & under – Unisex category); John Christopher Sonsona as Champion and Nash Agustines as runner-up (12 years & under – Boys category); Andrei Cuevas of Baroy, LDN as Champion and Marc Nicole Suson from Cebu City as runner-up (14 years & under – Boys category); Janus Al-Najeeb Ringia of Marbel City as Champion and Duma Hakim Boloto from MSU Marawi City as runner-up (16 years & under – Boys category); Janus Al-Najeeb Ringia as Champion and John Renest Sonsona as runner-up (18 years & under – Boys category);
Winners in Girls category include Afea Rose Tabudlong of Aurora Zamboanga de Sur as Champion and Carmel Padilla from Ozamiz City as runner-up (12 years & under category); Janmarie Anghag of Ozamiz City as Champion and Jyem Obedencia from Maranding, Lala town, LDN as runner-up (14 years & under); Janmarie Anghag as Champion and Anne Dominic Romano from Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur as runner-up (16 years & under); Immaville Gervacio from Ozamiz City as Champion and Anne Dominic Romano as runner-up (18 years & under).
The tennis matches were coordinated by the provincial government through its Provincial Community Affairs Office (PCAO).
The hosting of Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Tournament is another initiative of Governor Khalid Dimaporo under his Sports Development Program.
