Tubod, Lanao del Norte – The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte (PGLDN) in partnership with the municipal government of Impasug-ong hosted its first-ever invitational rodeo on June 29, 2015 at Agora complex, Brgy. Sagadan, in capital town Tubod.
Dubbed as ‘Lanao del Norte 1st Provincial Invitational Rodeo’, the one-day event was one of the highlight for the week-long 56th ‘Araw ng Lanao del Norte’ celebration.
“We are thankful to the municipal officials of Impasug-ong for bringing this exciting sport here in Lanao del Norte and allowing us to host this special tournament for the cowboys of Mindanao”, expressed Governor Khalid Dimaporo.
A total of five teams participated in the first rodeo tournament to be hosted by PGLDN. This includes Malaybalay Team, Libona Team A, Libona Team B, LGU Impasugong, and MJ Ranch.
Among the rodeo events participants competed in were bull riding, lassoing on foot, bull wrestling, carambola, calf undecorating, and casting down.
In the bull riding event, Libona Team B won 1st place while Malaybay Team took 2nd place, and Libona Team A settled for 3rd place.
In Lassoing on Foot event, Libona Team B took the top spot, MJ Ranch won 2nd place and LGU Imapasugong got the 3rd place.
Top winners in the other events include Libona Team B (Bull Wrestling), Malaybalay Team (Carambola), Libona Team A (Calf Undecorating), and LGU Imapsugong (Casting Down).
Libona Team B got the highest total points and was declared as over-all champion of the 1st provincial rodeo. Libona Team B also received P20-thousand pesos as cash prize from PGLDN.
Libona Team A was declared 1st Runner-up and got a cash prize of P15-thousand pesos. 2nd Runner-up title was awarded to MJ Ranch and LGU Impasugong after getting same number of points in the final tally, both received P10-thousand pesos as cash prize.
Special awards were also given to Jumar Braga of Libona Team B as Rodeo King while Joan Pimentel was declared as Rodeo Queen. Both received P2-thousand pesos as cash prize from Lanao del Norte LGU.
“The province of Lanao del Norte has a thriving cattle industry particularly in the coastal towns of Sultan Naga Dimaporo and Kapatagan with around 3,000 heads each”, noted Provincial Veterinarian Fritzie Provido. LAR & VNL/PIO-LDN
