Tubod, Lanao del Norte – Family of slain local hero PO2 Godofredo Canalet, one of the ‘Fallen 44’ received financial assistance from the provincial government of this peaceful province.
‘Fallen 44’ is the collective name given to the 44 PNP – Special Action Force (SAF) members who died at Mamasapano town, Maguindanao after capturing and killing one of Southeast Asia’s most-wanted terror suspects, Malaysian Zulkifli bin Hir, also known as Marwan.
PO2 Cabanlet is a resident of the coastal town of Baroy, Lanao del Norte.
The 20-thousand financial assistance was given to Cabanlet’s widow Elsa to demonstrate the support of the provincial leadership as families of slain SAF commandos continue to seek justice and truth in the Mamasapano ‘misencounter’.
The tragic assault in the rebel stronghold about 2 to 3 kilometers from the highway where backup police forces waited, resulted in the death of 44 SAF commandos – the biggest single-day combat loss by government forces in recent memory.
For his part, Governor Khalid Dimaporo expressed his sympathy to the family and friends of PO2 Cabanlet during the necrological service held at the Baroy Municipal Hall.
The Lanao del Norte LGU through its Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) will be also be providing psychosocial support to the kins of the deceased policeman.
The body of PO2 Cabanlet arrived last January 31, 2015 (Saturday) in his hometown from Manila via Laguindingan Airport.
Cabanlet was finally laid to rest on February 4 at Providence Memorial Park, Brgy. Magpatao, Lala town, Lanao del Norte. VNL/PIO-LDN
