Governor Dimaporo highlights role of media in Lanao del Norte’s transformation

Lanao del Norte Governor Khalid Dimaporo is interviewed by members of the media after his speech at the 13th Mindanao Communicators Network (MindaComNet) Congress held at Pryce Plaza Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

Tubod, Lanao del Norte – Speaking before the more than 240 information officers from different agencies of national and local goverments, Lanao del Norte Governor Khalid Dimaporo  underscored the role of media in the image transformation of his fast-rising province.

“Lanao del Norte has long been a victim of negative publicity. I realize that the only way we can combat negative publicity is through good publicity. And for Lanao del Norte, I believe we have achieve many of our successes because we have also successfully transformed the image of our province”, said Governor Dimaporo.

Dimaporo was tapped as one of the keynote speakers for the 13th Mindanao Communicators Network (MindaComNet) Congress held on November 13, 2015 at Pryce Plaza Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

The provincial government of Lanao del Norte (PGLDN) is actively using the quad-media to promote its tourism-oriented sponsored events like international motocross races, concerts, basketball games and regional and national sporting competitions.

To promote its various social programs and projects, PGLDN has regular blocktimes over local radio stations as well as in CATV stations in northern Mindanao.  The Lanao del Norte LGU also tapped regional and national newspapers to highlight its accomplishments and currently maintains its own official website (www.lanaodelnorte.gov.ph) for clients based abroad and interested foreign tourists.

“As servants of the people, it is not enough for us to simply do a good job. But we must also inform our ‘bosses’, as what our President PNoy emphasized that we are doing a good job so we can restore the public’s trust in government. And for the people to know that their government is working hard to improve their lives”, Dimaporo stressed.

The three-day event was hosted by the Philippine Information Agency – Region 10, Mindanao Communicators Network, Inc. in partnership with Regional Association of Government Communicators 10 and Mindanao Development Authority.

“Even though I’m not an information officer by profession but I really learned a lot from this Congress, especially on the message given by Governor Dimaporo.  I hope I can also replicate what he did on Lanao del Norte’s economic enterprise in my own municipality”, said Mayor Romeo Mejares of La Libertad town, Zamboanga del Norte.

Also present during the congress were PIA Director General Jose Mari Oquinena, ABS-CBN Corporate Communications Manager Bong Osorio, Commanding General Oscar Lactao of Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry Division, and PIA Regional Directors based in Mindanao.

Representative Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo of the 1st Congressional District of Lanao del Norte was also one of the major sponsors for this well-attended gathering of government information officers.
