The people of the Province of Lanao del Norte gathered at Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium on the evening of December 5, 2017 to pay homage to the gallantry and nobility of the men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines who have pledged in serving the people and securing the land.
For the past months when the Marawi siege took place, these brave soldiers who are assigned in Lanao del Norte immediately sprung into action to repel the atrocities caused by the Maute local terrorist group after affiliating themselves to the international terror group ISIS.
After 5 months of intense ground and air campaign, the security forces of the Republic of the Philippines successfully took control of the city. 165 brave soldiers selflessly gave their lives for the freedom of the Maranao people and for the country. Some of these soldiers who sacrificed their lives are children of the Province of Lanao del Norte.
The Provincial Government through the ever compassionate mother of Lanao del Norte, Governor Imelda “Angging” Quibranza-Dimaporo initiated a tribute to sincerely express gratitude to the bravery and heroism of the soldiers as well to the mothers who lost their sons defending freedom.
The Governor felt in her heart that it is right to give thanks to these courageous soldiers and let them feel that the people of the Province of Lanao del Norte appreciates and acknowledges the undertakings that these men have gone through.
Jose Mari Chan, the famous Filipino balladeer, a frequent visitor of the province and a close friend of Governor Angging without doubt agreed to sing on these especial evening to show admiration, through this humble gesture it could help inspire the soldiers to continuously fight what is right for the people and for the country.
Right after the concert, a massive Pyromusical exhibit were presented by the Provincial Government to soldiers and to the ever supportive residents of the province at the Grandstand of Mindanao Civic Center Sports Complex.
Brigadier General William A. Alunday, Commander of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade thanked the people and Governor Angging for the unwavering support extended to the AFP by continuously collaborating, coordinating and cooperating in guarding the boundaries of Lanao del Norte in not letting-in terrorists members who will seek refuge in the peaceful province.
“Thank you for your support; it might be spiritual, morale, financial, or of any kind. Through these, the soldiers feel that they are not alone and that the people are behind them. We like to thank you all from those who have served in Marawi and those who stayed protecting Lanao del Norte. We will never forget that. It helped boost the morale of our soldiers for we know that we are not alone. To Governor Angging thank you very much. We could not say more, but only Thank You. The 2nd Mechanized Brigade is always ready at any time to serve the people of Lanao del Norte,” sincerely expressed by Brigadier Alunday.
This is the reason why Governor Angging has organized this especial evening for the soldiers. The commitment that these soldiers pledged to serve the people with all cost can never be left unnoticed.
“On behalf of the people of the Province of Lanao del Norte, it is a great honour to give thanks to our soldiers who have relentlessly fought for our freedom and guard our province. These brave men and women of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade tirelessly protected us especially when we are already in our beds while these soldiers are awake to see to it that no terrorists can enter in our province to harm us and our family. The residence of this peaceful province will always be with you, our thoughts and our prayers will always be with you, to guide you, protect you and to keep you safe from all harm. Thank you for your bravery and heroism in protecting and serving the people of this country and the Province of Lanao del Norte.
