Tubod, Lanao del Norte – Five school teams from different towns of this progressive province and one team from Ozamiz City joined the Cheerleading Camp recently organized by the provincial government on June 6 to 7, 2015 at MCC Gymnasium, Brgy. Sagadan, in capital town Tubod.
The training is an initiative of Governor Khalid Dimaporo under his Kabataan Sigurado program that seeks to improve the athletic and academic performance of students especially those enrolled in government schools.
The Cheerleading camp was facilitated by 5-time NCC National Champion coach and WCC World Champion coach Arnold Villanueva of the Central Colleges of the Philippines’ Bobcats.
Assisting Villanueva are two SEAsia cheerleading champions and members of CCP Bobcats – Winmar Agdon and JV John Capistrano.
This is the second cheerleading camp hosted by the Lanao del Norte LGU to enhance the cheerleading skills of local students participating in provincial, regional and national-level cheerleading competitions.
Among the teams participating are Lala National High School Blue Hawks, LNNCHS Wildcats, Salvador National High School Pep Squad, St. Joseph Catholic High School -Sapad Builders, Kapatagan National High School Werewolves, and La Salle University -Ozamiz Pep Squad.
The teams were trained on the proper execution of stunts, throws, cheers, and dance.
During the first cheerleading camp last 2013, select Lanao del Norte students were given scholarship grants by major universities in Metro Manila.
The training was supervised by Camp Director Jovanny Pangasian of DepEd. The cheerleading camp is also supported by Aminah Dimaporo, the program adviser and a staunch advocate of healthy lifestyle in Lanao del Norte. LAR & VNL/PIO-LDN
