KAPATAGAN, Lanao del Norte – The Provinvicial Government of Lanao del Norte, through the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) distributed bangus fingerlings and prawn fry to 100 members of the Lanao del Norte Aquaculture Producers Association Inc. (LANAPA) under the department’s “Production Support for Freshwater, Brackish and Marine Aquaculture” program.

The said distribution took place at Barangay Tunaan, Lala, Lanao del Norte on October 14, 2022.

This component of the said project aims to support brackish fishpond operators from the Municipalities of Kapatagan, Lala, Baroy, and Tubod. Each beneficiary receives 1,100 bangus fingerlings and 6,400 prawn fry.

This project is an initiative of Governor Imelda ‘Angging Dela Cruz Quibranza who specifically increased the budget of PAO, as the implementing agency, in order to cushion the production woes of fishpond operators throughout Lanao del Norte.

“Long have they waited, finally it has been realized,” Letecia Ditucalan, Provincial Agriculturist said.

During the launching program, Mayor Angel Yap expressed his concern about the increasing difficulties the aquaculture subsector is facing and is thankful that Governor Angging has not faltered in her support of the fisheries sector.

“This is the first project enacted by our office that focuses on the dispersal of fingerlings and fry. We hope that through this, we may be able to encourage our fisherfolks in their vital role in the progress of our province and food security,” PAO Ditucalan added. PIO-LDN
