BALO-I, Lanao del Norte – The Municipality of Balo-i has now achieved Zero Open Defecation (ZOD) status.

The Provincial Health Office of this province, through Engr George Dimavivas, Sanitary Inspector, and his team, on Monday, November 7, 2022, declared the last five (5) barangays – Angayen-Balut, Sandor, Landa, Mamaanun, and Lumbac, ZOD status after thorough inspection with the Local Government of Balo-i, Rural Health Unit, along with the Rural Sanitary Inspector (RSI), and Barangay Sanitary Inspectors (BSI).

“This is a very noble and effective strategy to promote environmental sanitation and a healthy community,” Dr. Charmaine Canopin Pongase of the PHO said.

Open defecation is when human wastes are disposed of in fields, forests, bushes, open bodies of water, beaches, and other open spaces. Balo-i is the third town in Lanao del Norte to earn ZOD status. PIO-LDN
