
TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – In line with the Tourism Month celebration, the Provincial Tourism Office led the simultaneous International Coastal Cleanup Day on September 17, 2022, in the coastal areas of San Juan, Baroy, and Darumawang-Bucana, Lala.
To make the activity more meaningful, the PTourism, headed by Alerma Grace Montañez, in partnership with the Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), conducted a “Storytelling and Clean-up Drive” to these chosen barangays, aiming to equip the young generation with the methods on environmental protection through fact-based storytelling and highlighting the importance of eradicating marine pollutants.
“We’ve invited fifty kids aged 4-10 years old from each barangay to participate in this cleaning and learning activity. We also brought with us some ice cream and snacks for the kids to enjoy,” Ms. Montañez, Tourism Officer, said.
Various dignitaries and other government and non-government agencies also participated in the said activity, recognizing the importance of educating the children on environmental cleanliness, especially in coastal marine areas.
Present at Brgy. San Juan were Municipal Mayor Grelina M. Lim, Felisa Hayag Depaloma, Brgy. Chairman of San Juan, Opal Jade Cuarteron, President of JCI Panguil Bay, and Grace Mae Joven, President of the LaNorte Mountaineering Club (LAMOC). Meanwhile, Lyndon L. Abucay-Philippine Councilors League (PCL)-Lanao del Norte Chapter President along with Councilor Leah Lim Yap, SK Federated President Sulpicio Superales Songu-ad, Darumawang-Bucana Barangay Chairman Glyn Saco Ajon, and the Philippine National Police, graced the activity in Darumawang-Bucana.
