TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) has been distributing grafted fruit tree seedlings to local farmers from the different municipalities, a project under the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Program of the Provincial Government.
 
In a distribution activity last Friday, July 22, 2022, at the DA Compound, Provincial Agriculturist Letecia Ditucalan led the release of 5 mangoes, 5 lanzones, 5 durian, 3 rambutan, and 2 mangosteen seedlings to each of the 70 beneficiaries residing in Tubod, the capital town.
 
The said seedlings were purchased by the PAO from a Bureau of Plant Industry accredited nursery. In her speech, PA Ditucalan stressed the importance of planting trees as a way of preventing calamities caused by climate change.
“Among gi programa diri sa Provincial Agriculture ang pag tanom ug prutas kay double purpose. Kung puhon inyong alimahan, mudako ni siya ug mahimong kahoy apan kung ayuhon pagyud ninyog alima, mo produce siya og prutas aron inyong makaon, ug masobra, naa pay pwede ibaligya,” PA Ditucalan said.
 
This initiative is a yearly project of PAO worth P2 Million, taken from the 20% Development Fund.
Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member and Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Reinario Bihag, graced the ceremony and asked for the cooperation of the beneficiaries to really plant the trees that they received. PIO-LDN
