TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech), Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 10, and the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the establishment of the Rice Processing System (RPS) 2 on March 22, 2022, at the Macapagal Training Center, Pigcarangan, Tubod.
This project is under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Mechanization Program which features a Multi-Stage Rice Mill, which costs Php 60 Million, aiming to help improve the local rice farmers’ efficiency in terms of post-production and distribution system, reducing post-harvest losses, and maximizing the utilization of rice by-products.
On behalf of the newly appointed PHilMech Director Dionisio Alvindia, Engr. Edgar Testa signed the MOA with DA-RFO 10 Regional Executive Director Carlene Collado, and Lanao del Norte Provincial Governor Imelda “Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo.
“The RPS 2 is a big project, and it is the second in Mindanao (next to Maramag, Bukidnon). We have more projects in store for the province of Lanao del Norte, not only for our rice farmers but also for our corn farmers and fishermen,” Dir. Collado said.
Dir. Collado shared that for this year, the DA10 will give financial assistance for fertilizers to farmers amounting to Php 121 Million for this year and fuel subsidy for corn farmers and fisherfolks.
Engr. Testa, in his speech, said that “The Province of Lanao del Norte is already engaged in palay trading and rice processing since 2011 and is ready to give their counterpart (Php 23 Million) for the realization of this project.”
Governor Dimaporo expressed her gratitude to DA-PHilMech for always putting LDN on top of their minds when it comes to project implementation and encouraged the Provincial Agriculture Office, headed by PAO Letecia Ditucalan, to continue doing a good job in serving the local farmers and boosting the agriculture in Lanao del Norte.
“On behalf of the whole province, the farmers, officials, and the two Congressional Offices, rest assured, we will take good care of this project that you granted to us,” Governor Dimaporo said.
