TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – The National Power Corporation (NPC) Mindanao Regional Office is set to rehabilitate the Agus-Pulangi Hydropower Plants (Agus IV, Agus V, Agus VI, and Agus VII) to start next year.
 
A consultative meeting with the APRP (Agus-Pulangi Rehabilitation Project) and the key officials of the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte (PGLDN) was conducted at the Multipurpose Gym, Pigcarangan Tubod, last Friday, February 4, 2022.
 
Engr. Rey S. Polestico, Division Manager and focal person, said, “The rehabilitation will extend its operational lives and enhance the reliability of clean energy generation Mindanao without increasing its current rated capacities.”
“The rehabilitation will start next year, 2023, and will run for the next five years,” Polestico added.
 
The NPC assured the consumers that the project would not hamper its operation and increase the consumers’ bills. Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza Dimaporo personally attended the meeting with Vice Governor Maria Cristina Atay, BM Marivic Ramos, BM Achmad Taha, BM Gilbert Lacida, and SK Federated President Dahlia Garcia. Various LDN cooperatives, religious sectors, PWDs, Women’s Group, and Senior Citizens were also present during the conference.
Governor Dimaporo encouraged the group to participate in the meeting actively. “We should be more concerned about such development, especially if this regards our resources and environment. It is our province. Let us together protect it for our benefit and our children’s children’s future”, she added.
 
The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through Governor Dimaporo and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members led by Vice Gov Atay, epressed their support to the NPC for this venture.
 
The officials appealed to the NPC to allow the residents in the province to participate in the rehabilitation process. As they were grateful for the support of the PGLDN, the NPC also assured that they would consistently coordinate for the ongoing development and will remain open for people’s involvement for any concerns and deployment.
 
As we all know, the Agus-Pulangi Hydropower Complex (APHC) consists of seven hydropower plants with a total installed capacity of about 1,000 MW. Six (6) of the seven (7) hydropower plants (HPPs) are located on the Agus River that flows for 36.5 km from Lake Lanao to Iligan Bay, encompassing Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte, and the seventh hydropower plant is located on the Pulangi River of Bukidnon. The APHC is owned by the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM) and is operated by the National Power Corporation (NPC). PIO-LDN
