NUNUNGAN, Lanao del Norte – To help preserve the rich Maranao culture and support development, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte and the Local Government Unit of Nunungan spearheaded the groundbreaking of the proposed Torogan house, Friday, January 14, 2022.

Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo said, “This Torogan house will serve as a museum for the tourists to see the beautiful and rich Maranao culture when they visit Nunungan Lake. Nunungan is positioned as the province’s premier ecotourism destination, and the proposed project embodies the strong connection between our cultural heritage and natural environment.”

Following the vision of Nunungan Municipal Mayor Marcos Mamay in making the town one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the province and making Mt. Inayawan Range Natural Park with its Nunungan lake to be the country’s 10th ASEAN Heritage Park, Governor Dimaporo felt the need to all the more promote the Maranao culture and tradition through this P10 million Torogan house project.

During the same day, Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri also graced the program for the groundbreaking of his P3 million project, the Multi-purpose building, also situated at Brgy. Pantar, the same location as the Nunungan lake and the soon-to-rise Torogan house.

In his speech, Senator Zubiri expressed his awe for the natural beauty of Nunungan Lake and said, “Now that I have seen how beautiful this area is, I will help the mayor and the governor develop this as a superior tourism spot in Mindanao.”
“The peace and order of Nunungan have been restored, and it is no longer a place that we should be afraid in. It is already very beautiful and is earning attention not just at the national level but also international level,” Mayor Mamay said.

“We are very pleased that our town has finally gained the recognition that it deserves. We are exerting effort on how to make Nunungan a better place to live in and a competitive municipality not just in Lanao del Norte but the whole country,” Mayor Mamay added.

A greening activity was also conducted where over 3,00 seedlings of pink trumpet trees and 100 mancono trees were provided by the GN Power Kauswagan Ltd. Co, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. People from different agencies like the PNP, AFP, DILG, DOT, DTI, DPWH, PIA, LANECO, PGLDN, Inner Wheel Club of Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Norte Mountaineering Club, JCI Panguil Bay, JCI Lanao Greenfields, and Eagles Club, helped the planting of the soon to become forest foliage surrounding the majestic Nunungan Lake.
