MAIGO, Lanao del Norte – The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), on Friday, January 7, 2022, gave aid to thirty (30) flood victims from Maigo.
The said flood happened last January 3, 2022, at around 9:30 in the evening. The Maigo river has sustained a massive volume of water coming from the upper portion of the municipality, causing the river to overflow and submerge some low-lying areas of barangay Poblacion, Labu-ay, Kulasihan, and Balagatasa.
Residents evacuated to Labu-ay and Balagatasa gym to take shelter.
Eleven (11) families that had totally damaged houses, seven (7) that had partially damaged houses, and twelve (12) affected farmers were given food and non-food item supplies, including 10 kilos of rice, pot, pan, blankets, mosquito nets, sleeping mat, basin, basket, and canned goods.
“A total of 220 families evacuated here in our identified evacuation areas, and thankfully, there are no reported injuries, and only a few houses were severely damaged,” Abeliza Manzano, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Officer, said.
Elvie Gabutan, a resident of Poblacio, Maigo, said,”Usa mi sa pamila nga totally damaged ang balay. Daghang salamat sa donasyon. Maayo unta nga di nani mahitabo sa amoa.”
(We were one of the families whose house was totally damaged. Many thanks for the donation. It will not happen to us again.) PIO-LDN
