TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – To equip farmers with the knowledge of environmentally safe alternatives on animal waste management, disposal, and utilization, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) conducted a two-day training entitled Small-scale Biogas drum-type training and installation on December 27-28, 2021.

Held at the Macapagal Training Center (MTC), Pigcarangan, Tubod, sixteen (16) hog raisers from the municipalities of Baroy, Tubod, lala, Magsaysay, and Kauswagan, joined the free training.

Growing concerns about public health and environmental hazards have led the PVO to host this training and invite Isel A. Fetalvero, Biogas Coordinator of the Department of Agriculture 9, to be the resource speaker.

During the training, safety concerns, material requirements, installation, as well as financial and business opportunities regarding biogas was tackled by Fetalvero. He said, “Biogas not only helps in solving the livestock waste disposal problems within communities, but farmers can also benefit from it through acquiring biofuel, fertilizer, and with the right technology can be utilized for electrical energy. Easing the financial burdens from the farmers.”

“Biogas will use animal manure which is abundant here in our province. It will mitigate the public health hazard and environmental degradation. Not only are the materials very affordable, but they can greatly help our environment,” Dr. Fritz Provido, Provincial veterinarian, said.

“It is essential for the participants to have a hands-on experience in making a biogas digester unit because they will soon be the ones to pioneer and pass down this technology to their fellow livestock raisers,” Dr. Provido added. PIO-LDN
