BAROY, Lanao del Norte – To provide an avenue for public school student-athletes to showcase their sports skills, the Department of Education – Lanao del Norte conducted its first-ever Provincial Virtual Meet and Sports Skills Demonstration contest on December 1-3, 2021, held at the Lanao del Norte National Comprehensive High School, Baroy town.
With the theme ‘Healing the Nation through School Sports’, some sports will be judged through a demonstration contest which will feature the student-athletes’ skills in sports played in the Palarong Pambansa such as synchronized kicking for taekwondo, dribbling drills for basketball, routine for rhythmic or aerobic gymnastics, self-defense demo for arnis, and dance performance for dancesport, among others.
Victor De Gracia Jr., Assistant Regional Director, said, “You did well because your local leaders fully support you. You are the first division in Region X to push through this kind of event during this pandemic.”
Vice Governor Maria Christina ‘Cristy Atay, on behalf of Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo, on her message, said that “Rest assured, ang Provincial Government, naa gyud kanunay magpa-luyo sa Department of Education para ma suportaan ang atong mga maayo na plano para sa kabataan.”
(Rest assured, the Provincial Government will always be with the Department of Education to support their good plans for the children.)
The DepEd-LDN supports the promotion of school sports even in this time of pandemic through activities that can be done using online modality. This Virtual Sports Skills Demonstration Contest is a perfect opportunity in engaging the student-athletes in sports who sorely miss participation in various activities and competitions like the Provincial Meet, NMRAA, and Palarong Pambansa.
Edilberto L. Oplenaria, CESO V, Schools Division Superintendent of the DepEd-LDN, expressed his appreciation to all the staff for their collaborative efforts in the realization of the event.
“Sports is important for it helps our students improve health and teaches them some good qualities like discipline, hard work, patience, respect, and teamwork. As educators, we should not dwell in the winning and losing aspects of sports; instead, initiate students to participate more in gaining experience and attaining a better sense of sportsman spirit,” SDS Oplenaria said.
