TUBOD, Lanao del Norte – The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region X, in partnership with the Provincial Tourism Office (PTO), hosted a three-day Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) last November 24-26, 2021, at Jurassic Eco Park, Maranding, Lala.

This activity is to encourage more local mountaineering guides to think of safety before anything else, and taking the BMC is one way to equip one with the knowledge needed to help reduce risks in climbing mountains while taking care of our environment, not leaving a single trace after a climb.

The said workshop was supervised by Mr. Eric A Bontuyan of the DOT. They also invited Ms. Grace May O Joven, president of Lanao Norte Mountaineering Club (LAMOC), to impart her knowledge and skills to the participants.
“It is important to undergo BMC not just to learn about basic safety in mountaineering but as well as how to be responsible in protecting our diverse range of flora and fauna,” Bontuyan said.

Alerma Grace Yurong Montañez, Provincial Tourism Officer, also said, “We are very grateful to the DOT 10 headed by Regional Director Marie Elaine S Unchuan for reaching out to us and extending their time to teach our local guides. With the rising popularity of mountain climbing as a leisure hobby, more and more local tourists are visiting our mountains.” PIO-LDN
