Tubod, Lanao del Norte – The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte joins the Observance of the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW). As an initial activity, the Provincial Gender And Development (PGAD), led by Ms. Ruth O. Rudinas, PGAD focal person, convene at the Provincial Capitol Lobby to hang a streamer as a mark of the opening the 18-day campaign from November 25 -December 12, 2021.
With the theme “VAW-free community starts with Me,” this year’s campaign centers on the provision of RA 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act, which seeks to raise awareness among the general public as well as the organizations that are mandated to implement the law. The VAWC law covers all forms of gender-based sexual harassment committed in public spaces, educational or training institutions, workplaces, and online platforms among women and children.
“Together with the Provincial Population Office (POPCOM) with the initiative and support of Governor Angging Dimaporo, we have prepared various activities for this drive to cater to the needs and issues of every barangay and even schools in the province related to VAW,” Ms. Rudinas said.
The slogan for this year is “Filipino Marespeto; Safe Spaces, Kasali Tayo.” Under the Republic Act 10398, the Act declaring November 25 of every year as the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of VAWC, government agencies are all mandated to raise awareness on the problem of violence and the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls. Furthermore, in 2006, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed Proclamation No. 1172, declaring November 25 to December 12 of every year as the “18-Day campaign to end Violence Against Women”.
