TUBOD Lanao del Norte – Some 400 corn farmers from Ten (10) chosen municipalities of Lanao del Norte affected by the COVID 19 pandemic were recipients of the Glutinous Sweet Corn production, a special project of Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza -Dimaporo through the Provincial Agriculture’s Office (PAO).
The fund support was taken under the Five percent (5%) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund for Calendar Year 2021.
Letecia G. Ditucalan Provincial Agriculture Officer said the distribution of corn seeds started from October 22 to November 3, 2021, in the municipalities of Bacolod -20 beneficiaries, Baroy -30 , Lala -20 , Kolambugan -30 , Maigo- 30 , Magsaysay- 30 , Sapad- 35 , Salvador -35, Sultan Naga Dimaporo- 50 , Tubod 50 and PAO – with 75 walk-in clients with one kilogram pack of corn seeds for each farmer.
PA Ditucalan said the total project cost amounted to P640,000 is a continuing support to farmers amidst health crisis. The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte focuses on economic recovery strategies by extending farm inputs to the farmers in support of corn production.
“The immediate income-generating projects are the best way to allow our marginal corn farmers to earn out of corn production, for it is not only simpler to grow within 65 to 75 days, but it is also more profitable,” PA Ditucalan added.
The province has a total of 32,000 hectares of corn land with 16,000 corn farmers. PIO-LDN
