In an aim to contribute to averting the effects of climate change, the Provincial Cooperative Office (PCO) of Lanao del Norte, in partnership with the Municipal Cooperative Development Council (MCDC) of Kolambugan, conducted a “Mangrove Tree Planting” on October 12, 2021, at Kulasihan, Kolambuggan, Lanao del Norte.

The mangrove planting activity was successfully organized in celebration of the National Cooperative Month. Forty (40) participants from Kulasihan Fisherfolk Association, Kolambugan Developers MPC (KODEMCO), MCDC Kolambugan, and PCO personnel planted a total of 100 propagules.

With the planting of the propagules, the cooperatives of Lanao del Norte aim to uphold one of the seven cooperative principles, which is the concern for the community. The activity serves as an integral part of the Provincial Government’s advocacy to restore and rehabilitate the mangrove ecosystem, foster biodiversity protection, and vegetate the coastal areas in the community.

Meanwhile, Governor Imelda’ Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo said that constituents from all sectors and walks of life should come together and contribute to curbing the effects of climate change.

“We should not wait for the worse to happen. It’s an issue that we must all address; therefore, everyone must step up to help control its effects. I commend our cooperatives in the province for taking the big step and initiative against climate change,” Governor Angging said. PIO-LDN
