Through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte joined the movement for a clean planet by holding its own PGLDN Clean-Up Day on September 17, 2021, the third Friday of the month.
With the help of ENRO personnel headed by Mr. Ramon Serapio and the SMSA staff, all PGLDN departments were able to collect and segregate their office waste and proceeded to the new provincial Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for the overview of MRF mechanisms and functions and tour.
A materials recovery facility (MRF) is where segregated collected wastes are brought for final sorting. It is also a place where the segregated recyclables are stored separately according to type, i.e., paper, plastics, glass, metal, etc. They are granulated/shredded to make bricks and other up-cycled reusable materials, and biodegradable wastes are processed into compost.
The MRF has various machines, including a waste sorting machine, waste crusher, waste mixer, rapid composter, waste pulverize, and paving block machine that can be used to minimize waste and effectively solve the garbage problem in the province.
The issues with waste have not gotten better; rather, they have worsened during the pandemic. Thus, Governor Angging is determined to change it to save the environment, eliminate pollution, and make the people safe from calamities.
“A very small act can make a big impact. We should highlight the importance of managing waste properly. Let us all help create healthy, sustainable environments in our province,” Governor Angging said. PIO-LDN
