The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte, through the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), joined the celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2021 through a SIMULTANEOUS TREE PLANTING activity conducted at Mt. Torong Torong in the Municipality of Tubod.
Provincial Administrator Sittie Aminah Quibranza-Dimaporo and the PDRRMO headed by Ms. Abeliza Manzano spearheaded the event with the help of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO).
This year’s NDRM theme: “Tamang Pamamahala’t Kahandaan, Kaalaman at Pagtutulungan sa Sakuna at Pandemyaý Kalasag ng Bayan”, emphasize the relevant role of disaster risk governance and the collaboration of all Filipinos to overcome the challenges of this pandemic and to build a green and resilient new normal.
The activity aims to raise awareness of the importance of planting and saving trees, especially during this challenging time. The health crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic has put the spotlight even more on the need to keep the air clean through decarbonization by the planting/growing of trees.
“Planting trees and taking care of our existing forests and other natural resources are just some of the things that we can do for our Mother Earth. Along with taking care of our health, let us also likewise make an effort to look after our nature to diminish the unfavorable effects of climate change.” Ms. Aminah said.
MDRRMOs of the municipalities of Kolambugan, Tubod, Lala, Kauswagan, Nunungan, Baroy and Magsaysay were also present to take part in the said activity and expressed their support to the PGLDN’s advocacy in building a better, greener and safer Lanao del Norte, ‘The Land of Beauty and Bounty’. PIO-LDN
