The Provincial Mining Regulatory Board of the Province of Lanao del Norte conducted a regular meeting via an online platform. The conference was presided by the newly appointed Regional Director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), Engr. Felizardo A. Gacad Jr.
As the Co-Chairperson of LDN-PMRB, Governor Angging extends her genuine appreciation for the presence of Director Gacad and the other members of the board despite the difficulties and distance. In her opening message, Governor Angging reminded the participants as she pointed out the significance of quarrying in the province and the value of addressing the problems in line with it to meet the needs of everyone and to protect our environment for the future of our children’s children. “If the board will give you a license to operate, I am hoping that you will also be responsible and accountable for your duties. May you always stand for the truth and follow the agreed guidelines. Even though we are not always on track, someone above is still looking for your deeds.” Governor Angging added.
The meeting agenda merely focuses on the review and deliberation of 7 permit applications in which 4 are New Quarry Applicants, 1 CSAG Renewal, I ISAG Renewal, and 1 Quarry Renewal. During the meeting, Director Gacad also emphasized the statement of Governor Angging, as he said, “All problems have solutions. Let us not make these problems even worse. We need to work together to resolve this as soon as possible, especially that there is Climate Change. We should not wait before it gets worsen and destroy our communities, most importantly our Mother Nature”.
Throughout the meeting, all proposals of the 7 participants were approved. However, two (2) of them were marked as conditionally approved due to the lacking of requirements and/or documents. Governor Angging also raised the idea of conducting an ocular inspection in every project scope before and after the proposal to monitor development and to assess its damage and effects if ever there is.
Aside from the participants, present during the meeting were Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member and the Chairperson of the Committee of Environment Protection, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change Hon. Maida Tawantawan, Provincial Administrator Ms. Sittie Aminah Q. Dimaporo, Representative from Small Scale Mr. Jimmy Cabahug, NGO’s Representative Ms. Blenda Desierto, Atty. Mark Christopher Babor from the Provincial Legal Office and Mr. Ramon Serapio and Niño Desierto of PENRO.
Governor Angging appeals for the cooperation and honesty of all the participants. The PGLDN Chief Executive also reminds them to run their operation smoothly, coordinating from its barangays to benefit the communities.
Lanao del Norte is truly endowed with abundant natural resources; that is why LDN-PMRB consistently and actively regulates sessions like this to manage all the quarrying activities in the province properly, sustaining its beauty, and bounty. PIO-LDN
