In relation to the Republic Act 11223, otherwise known as the Universal Health Care Act (UHC law), the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte, through the Provincial Health Office (PHO), led by Dr. Marujetta Opamen, conducted its first Universal Health Care Management Team Meeting.
The said event was personally attended by Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza Dimaporo, and other healthcare providers from the Provincial Health Office held at the Provincial Multi-Purpose Hall, Pigcarangan, Tubod.
The primary purpose of the meeting was to present updates and reports concerning the ongoing UHC integration in the province. Universal Health Care aims to ensure the availability of equitable access to quality and affordable health care and protection against the financial risk of all the people.
Last 2019, Lanao del Norte was one of the pilot provinces to primarily integrate and implement UHC. To ensure the focus on working towards a continuous and successful implementation of the UHC in the province, Dr. Charmaine Canopin was assigned as the Focal person in the said venture.
In her opening message, Governor Angging pointed out the importance of having a successful operation of UHC in the province. This will help the constituents avail efficient health services without financial hardships and provide additional support to all the frontliners in attaining complete medical supplies and provision while delivering service to the people, especially amidst this pandemic.
“We all know that we are still so far from our target, which is to fully integrate the UHC in our province. There are many requirements still needed to pursue; thus, I am earnestly appealing to everyone, from the PHO to all MHUs in the province, for your collaborative effort in the success of this program”, Governor Angging added.
The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte, spearheaded by Governor Angging, and the two active Congressional District Representatives, Congressman Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo of the 1st District and Congressman Abdullah Dimakuta Dimaporo of the 2nd District, are very consistent in giving necessary support for the successful implementation of the UHC.
As a member of the legislative branch of the province, SP Committee on Health and Sanitation Board Member Harris Ali also gives assurance to the management team for the incessant coordination of the Provincial board through Vice Governor Cristy Atay and other Board Members, most notably in passing resolutions and approving ordinances in line with the requirements of UHC integration.
The Local Health System-Maturity Level tool and the essential Laws and issuances to pursue were also presented during the conference. Furthermore, the concern regarding the insufficient numbers of medical staff and management staff was also raised during the meeting. In this implementation, a complete and robust workforce is a must o sustain the development of UHC.
As a whole, all the team members were enlightened to the achievements and the necessary actions that are still needed for the success of the UHC in the province.
