Under the leadership of Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte visited every municipality in the province for an information drive for COVID-19 vaccination for the senior citizens.
Although all age groups are at risk of contracting COVID-19, older people face a significant risk of developing severe illness if they catch the disease due to physiological changes that come with aging and potential underlying health conditions. Thus, the Senior Citizen Federated Presidents in every barangays convened in their respected municipalities for the said activity to tackle and talk more about the subject and evaluate their willingness to get vaccinated.
The information drive was conducted by the Provincial Health Office (PHO), headed by Dr. Marujeta Isabel Opamen; the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), led by Ms. Annabelle S. Mendez; and the Provincial Community Affairs Office (PCAO), headed by Mr. Lyndon G. Calica.
PHO and PSWD staff organized this orientation to encourage the elderly to get vaccinated as they are most vulnerable and are at an increased risk of complications from certain diseases. It is also to ensure that the vaccines are indeed safe, and they must not automatically believe in fake news.
Governor Angging is one with the Department of Health’s mission in curing the virus, and stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools we have available. On top of performing the health and safety measures, she encourages the constituents to get vaccinated in order to gain additional protection from the unseen enemy. PIO-LDN
