In celebration of Women’s Month, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza Dimaporo, recently conducted a Provincial Women’s Assembly held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Capitol Ground, Tubod with the theme “WE MAKE CHANGE WORK FOR WOMEN; JUANA LABAN SA PANDEMYA: KAYA!”.
This assembly was participated by various Federated Presidents of the Women Association from the different municipalities led by Ms. Crestilyn Yañez, the Provincial KALIPI Women President together with its Vice President Ms. Evangeline Codilla.
The event was organized by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) headed by Ms. Annabelle S. Mendez, wherein it was also joined by Hon. Maida A. Tawantawan the SP Chair for Social Services. GAD & Women & Family Relations.
The whole day activity was full of knowledge for it was attended by key guest speakers. Dr. Cristie Joy Indoc of the Provincial Health Office and Atty. John Dale A. Cantalejo of LDN Public Attorney’s Office. At the first part of the program, Dr. Indoc imparted essential information to all the women participants regarding some Prevention and Early Detection of Breast and Cervical Cancer wherein she emphasized that awareness of such kind of diseases is incredibly important so that we can be able to detect and treat it when it is most treatable.
On the other hand, Atty. Cantalejo reminded the group of their right as women in the society through a brief discussion of some laws such the RA 9262 the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC), RA 8353, or the Anti-Rape Law, and other related Laws concerning women’s protection. The guests proactively and intently listened to the presentation of Atty. Cantalejo as he succinctly deliberated the subject about Legal Wife’s Remedy Under the Law against a Mistress.
Governor Angging extended her sincere gratitude to the honorable guest speakers for sharing purposeful and essential information for women’s empowerment and protection from indecent and abusive men.
“As someone who has also experienced harassment, I encourage you to fight back and defend yourself for it is not a simple thread of joke. Any type of harassment or abuse in the women’s sector needs to be addressed in order to value women and give them a safe and secured environment”, Governor Angging added.
Aside from the shirts and kits, Governor Angging through the PSWDO also gave cellphones, baskets, and pillows to the participants through a raffle draw. After the fun activity, a Spiritual Enhancement was conducted led by Ptra. Florence O. Perocho.
Governor Angging together with Congressman Mohamad Khalid Q. Dimaporo of the 1st District and Congressman Abdullah Dimakuta Dimaporo of the 2nd District strongly supports programs and projects to intensify the protection of the women sector and to constantly promote wellness and equitable service to the constituents of the Province of Lanao del Norte.
