The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte (PGLDN) through the office of the Provincial Tourism successfully conducted a 2 –day Solid Waste Management Forum with participants coming from the coastal barangays held at the Multi-Purpose Gymnasium, Pigcarangan, Tubod dated March 4 & 9, 2021.
 
On behalf of Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo, Provincial Tourism OIC Ms. Alerma Grace E. Yorong invited Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member and Committee Chairman on Environment Protection, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change Hon. Maida Tawantawan. Hon. Tawantawan encouraged all participating Barangay Chairmen, Municipal Tourism Officers and MENROs to support the efforts of the Provincial Government in gearing towards a zero-waste community.
 
The agenda of the forum was centered on the status and implementation of the 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan of the Local Government Units and how it is important to implement such plans/rules in order to have a cleaner and safer community as well as to develop tourism in the province. Mr. Niño M. Desierto, Environmental Management Specialist of LDN Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), thoroughly discussed the topic as well as the key provisions of the Republic Act (RA) 9003, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
 
Ms. Yorong, together with SP Member and Committee Chairman on Tourism, Labor and Employment Hon. Achmad Taha was very delighted with the support that Governor Angging had given to boost the tourism of Lanao del Norte and pledged their dedication to promote sustainable tourism in the province specially the tourist destinations along the coastal municipalities that are attracting more and more local tourists.
 
The participating municipalities in the said forum were Linamon, Bacolod, Kauswagan, Kolambugan, Tubod, Baroy, Lala, Kapatagan, and SND. PIO-LDN
