EGIS Team Leader Mr. Jean-Louis Carron in an online meeting facilitated the discussion to Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo regarding the Infrastructure Preparation and Innovation Facility – Output 2: Water Projects (IPIF-2) and the Preparation of Feasibility Studies Stage for the Ranao (Agus) River Basin.

To protect the urban barangays along the Agus River Basin from flooding, a combination of building a dike (2.25 km long x 3.5 m high) and road improvement is the first strategy which will be constructed on the left bank of Ranao (Agus) River and the two existing roads would be raised and improved to serve as access roads for residents during high flood events, which will have reinforced concrete pipes for flow transparency.

The second strategy would consist of a dike which is 2.5 km long x 3.2 m high on the right bank and a road improvement on the left bank of Ranao (Agus) River. This dike would prevent flooding on the right side of the Baloi Flood Plain and the road improvement would provide access to higher grounds during high flood levels.

While the third strategy is the combination of measures of Strategy 1 and 2, that is, the concrete dikes on the left and right banks of Ranao (Agus) River and the road improvement on the left side of the Ranao (Agus) River.

Governor Angging expressed her sincere appreciation to the team for preparing the Integrated Flood Risk Management Master Plans (IFRMMP) to protect the urban populace residing within the Ranao (Agus) River Basin.

The Provincial Chief Executive of the Province of Lanao del Norte urged all Local Government Units benefiting the waters from Lake Lanao to intensify the Anti-Illegal Logging Operation and include reforestation programs in their annual investment plan.

Governor Angging said, “I have your 101% support and hope that this dream project will become a reality for the welfare of our children’s children.”

The project is under the Department of Public Works and Highways and financed by the Asian Development Bank in partnership with EGIS, INCLAM, and KECC, the consortium of consultants for the Ranao (Agus) River Basin Project.
