The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) spearhead a meeting to discuss measures and come up with viable strategies to stop the illegal logging in the province, particularly in Mt. Inayawan Range Natural Park, Municipality of Nunungan, the last frontier forests of Lanao del Norte and the vital water source of Kapatagan Valley.
2nd District Representative, Congressman Abdullah ‘Bobby’ Dimakuta Dimaporo strongly urged the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the province to intensify the campaign in apprehending illegal loggers and file legal cases for violating the Environmental laws of the country, particularly in the acts of denuding the protected forest areas.
The good Congressman emphasized that stopping and apprehending illegal forests products, conveyances including machinery, equipment, and tools does not stop illegal loggers to continue cutting trees, the illegal loggers must be arrested and must face the consequences of their illegal acts.
Kapatagan Valley is the food basket of the Province of Lanao del Norte it covers the Municipalities of Kapatagan, Lala, Sapad, Salvador, and Tubod, and the water that irrigates the farmlands and fish ponds of these municipalities comes from Mt. Inayawan, which is now under threat through the conduct of illegal logging activities. Further, the denuding of forests contributes to the siltation of rivers flowing towards the Panguil Bay, which tremendously affects the growth of marine products-one of the primary sources of livelihood, and with this, it will eventually fill the bay with soil if the concerned government agencies and stakeholders will do nothing to prevent it from happening.
Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo expressed her full support to the measures and strategies agreed at the meeting. One, in particular, is to intensify the monitoring of the forested areas together with DENR provincial personnel, Philippine National Police, and the Philippine Army.
The PNP and the AFP officers assured the August body that they are one with the call of protecting the forests of the Province of Lanao del Norte.
Mayor Marcos M. Mamay of the Municipality of Nunungan, same with Governor Angging and Congressman Abdullah is sincere in protecting the Mt. Inayawan Range Natural Park and have led a series of Anti-illegal logging operations in his area of responsibility.
Governor Angging and Congressman Abdullah were happy to hear the commitment of the Philippine National Police personally attended by PCol Rolindo M Suguilon and PMaj Salman Saad and the AFP represented by Major Rolly Melendrez of the 2nd Mechanized Brigade, Major Rommel Montemayor of the 4th Mechanized Battalion, and 1Lt Jesus Reyes of the 53rd Mechanized.
