The Department of Labor and Employment Region 10 together with the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte officially turned-over livelihood project to seven (7) beneficiaries through the help of Paglingkawas Women Federation (PAWFED) an Accredited Co-Partner (ACP) of DOLE in the province.

Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo expressed her gratitude to DOLE 10, represented by Assistant Regional Director Estrella U. Pahalla and Provincial Director Remegio S. Cabañog for actively responding to the request of the provincial government through PAWFED by providing the necessary equipment for the improvement and sustainability of the beneficiaries’ livelihood project.

Governor Angging was happy to see that the Maranao traditional method of weaving is continuously practiced by the ISLAHIYYAH Association from the Municipality of Poona Piagapo and being handed down to the younger generation. Maranao weaving is always in the heart of the Governor and wanting to preserve this unique cultural heritage in the Province of Lanao del Norte.

This turnover of livelihood project is a dream come true not only to its beneficiaries but also to Governor Angging, especially the blanket weaving and dressmaking. She has mentioned at the ceremony that for so long she has been fascinated by this colorful and intricate way of making a blanket or a dress, and expressed her appreciation to the difficulty and strenuous work that comes with it just to create one blanket or a dress. “I give my 101% support for the sustainability of this livelihood project, and it is essential to hand this unique cultural heritage to the younger generation to carry on,” the Governor said, and further added that she hopes to collaborate with famous fashion designers in the country to develop and enhance the techniques of ISLAHIYYAH members in designing products that can compete in the open market, and help grow their business.

Moreover, the Provincial Chief Executive reminded, as well as encouraged the beneficiaries to give importance to the assistance extended by DOLE. “The National Government is always there ready to extend assistance to you. Like this livelihood project with the help of PAWFED, DOLE shows there commitment to help improve your lives. Just show them that you are worthy of its assistance and continue to gain their trust.”

Assistant Regional Director Estrella U. Pahalla on behalf of Regional Director Joffrey M. Suyao, was happy to meet Governor Angging and heard it straight from her the importance of this livelihood project to the Province of Lanao del Norte, and particularly to the beneficiaries, and encouraged the members to work together for the betterment of the organization and sustainability of the livelihood project.

At the turnover ceremony, ISLAHIYYAH Association received the traditional blanket weaving loom and a sewing machine with threads; Lampakanay Handicraft Association received 1 unit of Welding Machine, Electric Driller, and Grinder; and 4 desktop and a laptop computer with printing machines were distributed to BUKAPA (Bulawanong Kababaihan sa Pacita), UNIFAFA (United Fisherfolks and Farmers Association), Balo-i Peanut Processors, LANPROF (Lanao Norte Processors Federation), and PAWFED (Paglingkawas Women Federation).

Governor Angging also donated her personal Sewing Machine to ISLAHIYYAH Association.
