The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the Provincial Health Office conducted an Orientation Meeting on Proper Handling of Remains on Suspect, Probable, and Confirmed COVID-19 with the Municipal Health Office – Sanitary Inspectors, Chief of Hospitals, and Funeral Parlor Owners/Operators in the province at the Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium, Tubod, Lanao del Norte on April 23, 2020.

Dr. Teresa M. Reponte, the Acting Provincial Health Officer acknowledged the presence of the funeral personnel for participating in today’s important activity and introduced the guidelines on the correct handling of human remains suspected, probable, and confirmed of COVID-19.

Engr. George A. Demavivas, the Provincial Health Emergency Management System Coordinator, thoroughly discussed the standard procedure set by the Department of Health for COVID-19, to be followed and observed strictly by all personnel task to handle a dead body.

One important and the first thing that all personnel should do when dealing with a human remain suspected or infected with COVID-19, is to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect themselves from exposure to the virus and other surface areas that are possibly contaminated.

Surgical gloves, goggles, face shields, and long sleeves water-resistant gowns, are the suggested PPE that one should wear. Elvin J. Pomicpic, the Statistician Officer of the Provincial Health Office, methodically demonstrated and explained to the participants the proper step in handling the PPE.

Carmelyn B. Mayol and Fatima Lykka Eppie, the representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development were also present to explain the agency’s COVID-19 Death Assistance for indigent families.

Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo has tasked the Provincial Health Office to actively initiate activities with the private and public sectors that are relevant in the fight against COVID-19.
