Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo humbly expressed her gratitude to the Rice Traders and Millers in the Province of Lanao del Norte for heeding to her call for a meeting despite the delicate situation that the province and the country are facing due to the threat posed by COVID-19.
Governor Angging sincerely asked help from the sector in addressing concerns not only involving the health of the constituents but equally important is the sustainability of the supply of rice in the province.
“I cannot do it alone, the Provincial Government needs your help. We need you to support us. We have to work as a family, and as residents of Lanao del Norte,” appealed the Governor.
The Provincial Government proposes to the Rice Traders and Millers to buy rice from them at a fair price in order to have enough supply if in case the COVID-19 threat will last longer. The stocks of rice will then be utilized for purposes of augmentation whenever the municipalities could no longer provide rice for the people.
The role of the Provincial Government comes in when the Barangays and the Municipalities has no longer the capacity to provide provisions for their constituents or when their 5% budget of the Calamity Fund has already run-out.
With this, Governor Angging is looking far ahead by preparing today of the possibilities that might happen in the coming days if the Enhanced Community Quarantine needs to be extended.
The Provincial Chief Executive has also asked the Rice Traders and Millers to give priority to the Barangays when purchasing rice from them, especially at this time of crisis, which will be then distributed to their constituents, particularly for the least fortunate and those daily earners that are directly affected by the implementation of the province-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine.
In responding to the call of Governor Angging, the Rice Traders and Millers have unanimously agreed to sell their rice to the Provincial Government at P950/bag of 25 kilos of regular rice variety.
Present also at the meeting are Letecia G. Ditucalan, the Provincial Agriculturist and staff, Rodolfo P. Aranzado; Lyndon G. Calica, the IMT Incident Commander and Provincial Information Officer; and Atty. Mark Christopher Babor, the Provincial Legal Officer with representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry – Lanao del Norte, Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist, John Clifford M. Fernan, and National Food Authority, Lenona Lennette M. Tanupis.
