The Department of the Interior and Local Government in the Province of Lanao del Norte spearheaded a forum together with the Municipal Chief Executives and representatives of the Municipalities of Balo-i, Lala, Magsaysay, Matungao, Nunungan, Poona Piagapo, and Sultan Naga Dimaporo, the beneficiaries of the Bulk Water Program of DILG at Macapagal Training Center, Pigcarangan, Tubod, on December 9, 2019.
DILG Provincial Director Bruce A. Colao explains the importance of a holistic understanding of the project between the Provincial Government, Municipal Government, and DILG, and a time to strengthen coordination with all stakeholders.
“DILG has always been advocating alignment of our development trajectory coupled with our investment programming. When we say alignment it could be horizontal or vertical (Water Supply and Water Sanitation Programs). We would also align our development thrust in the province, the municipal government should always align its development programs of that with the provincial government, and if the said projects are to be implemented, we would like to see complementation of our efforts, complementation of resources, so that when this will be implemented in our localities, we will have a better understanding of the project, and its primary purpose,” PD Colao explains.
The goal of the meeting is to hear from the Local Chief Executives of the beneficiary municipalities their commitment to the realization of this bulk water project, a grant from the national government through the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo encouraged the Municipal Mayors to actively work in getting this project.
“We are very lucky that we have a President that comes from Mindanao. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte gives us Mindanaons the opportunity to make our lives better by pouring in projects that are beneficial to us, and this Bulk Water Program is one of them. Remember water is a basic need, and having clean water accessible to our constituents makes our community safe and the people healthy. Let us grab this opportunity that is given to us for free. All you have to do is to comply with all the requirements in order to avail of this program. And I would also like to hear personally your commitment, for this is for the good of our constituents. The Provincial Government is always ready to extend technical assistance to you (LGUs),” expressed the Governor.
Ms. Faye Crisela Bantola, Program Manager from DILG Central Office together with the Consultants from CEST, Incorporated, and Engineering and Development Corporation of the Philippines made their presentation and discussed the Bulk Water Supply Project, Conduct of Feasibility Study and other related activities, Conduct of Social and Environmental Assessment, and Gathering of Missing Data Requirements.
The Provincial Chief Executive also took the opportunity to express her gratitude to the Municipal Mayors for supporting the Provincial Government for the accommodation and hospitality shown to the delegations from the four (4) provinces and nine (9) cities participating for the 2019 Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) Meet.
