Day before the 3rd and Final Leg of Lanorteman 2019 in Sultan Naga Dimaporo, the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the Provincial Tourism Office toured the triathletes at the Farm Tourism Capital of the province, the Municipality of Magsaysay, where the Municipal Government headed by Honorable Mayor Haron D. Omar Sr. warmly welcomes the triathletes from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, that was personally accompanied by Ms. Sittie Aminah Quibranza Dimaporo, the Provincial Administrator on November 23, 2019.

Triathletes enjoyed the day’s activity on the farm by planting organic coconut, harvesting bitter gourd (ampalaya), and riding the local horses, to name a few, and treated to a lunch of Maranao delicacies and even tasted the town’s freshly harvested coconut wine.

Ms. Sittie Aminah expressed her appreciation and gratitude to Mayor Haron D. Omar Sr. and the Municipal Officials for the preparations made to accommodate the guests, and to the people of Magsaysay for the warm reception by sharing the local culture through their talents.

The Local Chief Executive on behalf of the people of Magsaysay thanked the Provincial Administrator for including his municipality in the itinerary of places for the triathletes to visit and helping to promote the farm tourism program, and especially to the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte under the leadership of Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo, and to the two Congressional District Offices of 1st District Representative, Congressman Mohamad Khalid Quibranza Dimaporo, and 2nd District Representative, Congressman Abdullah ‘Bobby’ Dimakuta Dimaporo for the unwavering support extended to his municipality, like the construction of a Multi-Purpose building that will soon serve as a restaurant as well as a display center for the local products.

Right after the farm visit, triathletes were brought to Kalilangan Cold Spring in the Municipality of Tubod and were captivated by the view, where some of them could not resist the cold and clear water and decided to take a dip.

The Provincial Government wanted the triathletes to experience first-hand the culture and hospitality of the residents. And for them to see that despite of cultural diversity, the Muslims and the Christians in Lanao del Norte are united and have lived harmoniously for years, and through these experiences, they will share it with their family, friends, and colleagues when they go back to their respective places.

Preservation of the people’s culture is important to the Provincial Government, for it is the way of life of the people, like any other culture in the country.

Lanorteman is a sporting event that does not only promotes the sport of triathlon in the province but also creates an opportunity to understand and bridge the gap of cultural differences by gradually building friendships and camaraderie amongst the participants founded on trust and respect. PIO-LDN
