The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte and the Local Government of the Municipality of Magsaysay celebrate the 1st year anniversary of the Coco Farm program on October 8, 2019 at the farm site in Barangay Poblacion.
The Municipality of Magsaysay was chosen by Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo to be the farm tourism center and last year launched “the Lanao del Norte Coco Farm and It’s more fun in LaNorte Farms program.”
The program aims to promote Lanao del Norte as a farm tourism destination as well as the sustainable farming practices in order to help generate income for local farmers and farm owners in the province. Aside from the benefit, it provides to the local farmers it will also open opportunities for livelihood to the residents of the communities, employment generation, education of the non-farming public and preservation of the rural landscape.
Governor Angging recognized the effort of Municipal Mayor Haron ‘Don Don’ Omar, Sr. and especially to the first lady of Magsaysay for working tirelessly together with Vice Mayor Wilson Erediano and Honorable Dariday Obinay, ABC President of the 24 barangays in preparing for the success of the day’s activity and by actively supporting and sustaining the program as the pilot municipality for organic farming.
It is the goal of the Provincial Chief Executive with the help of Ms. Bulhing Dela Cruz, the Provincial Farm Tourism Consultant, to showcase the beauty that lies within the Municipality of Magsaysay by gradually shaping it into a farm tourism destination with the support of the LGU and the Department of Tourism and the Department of Agriculture.
The two national government agencies collaborated their ideas to come up in promoting the industry by encouraging farm owners, farmers, and the local government units to engage in farm tourism.
Mayor Omar Sr. assures Governor Angging that he will do his best to sustain the program entrusted to them by the Provincial Government, DOT, and DA, and to make the Municipality of Magsaysay the organic vegetable basket of Lanao del Norte.
Before proceeding to the groundbreaking ceremony of the Farm Tourism Multipurpose Building, Ms. Alerma Grace Yorong announced the winners of the Floral Highway and Vegetable Garden Competition to which Barangay Ilihan grabbed the 3rd Place, Barangay Tambacon 2nd Place, and the 1st spot went to Barangay Durianon.
The Department of Agriculture provided seeds and farm tools and the Provincial Government as well handed over 100 seedlings of Mangosteen and another hundred for Durian to Magsaysay LGU through the Provincial Agriculturist Office headed by Ms. Letecia A. Ditucalan.
To show commitment in supporting the program, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan were present, Honorable Harris U. Ali, Honorable Maida Tawantawan, Honorable Acmad Taha, Honorable Marivic Ramos, and Honorable Genesis Tura, Federated President of Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas-Lanao del Norte. Department of Tourism Region 10 was represented by Ms. Charlita Ladera and Mr. Gabriel Estrada on behalf of Regional Director Marie Elaine S. Unchuan; Engr. Dominicio Eleseo for Regional Director Carlene Collado; Ms. Lolita Omar for the Department of Agrarian Reform 10; Engr. Mohammad Faiz Makakiling for the Philippine Coconut Authority; PNP Provincial Director, Police Colonel Rene Solidarios; and Mr. Harold Clavite former Director-General of the Philippine Information Agency. The Municipal Mayors were also present, Honorable Rosa Olafsson of Baroy; Honorable Marcos Mamay of Nunungan; Honorable Mighty Dimakuta of Tagoloan; and Honorable Muslima Macon of Poona Piagapo together with Ms. Sittie Aminah Quibranza Dimaporo, the Provincial Administrator.
