The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer headed by Ms. Annabelle S. Mendez commemorates the culmination of the weeklong celebration of the 41st National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) in the province at Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium, Sagadan, Municipality of Tubod on July 19, 2019.

Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo joined by Vice Governor Maria Cristina N. Atay together with Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member, Honorable Maida A. Tawantawan, the Committee Chairperson on Social Services and Gender Development.

On behalf of the Provincial Government, the Provincial Chief Executive was happy to express her full support to the organizations of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the province through the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development.

Governor Angging encouraged all PWDs through their respective organizations to communicate their plans and programs as well as their activities to Ms. Mendez.

The National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation is observed annually by the provincial government to give importance to the PWDs in the province.

Thirteen (13) Municipalities participated in today’s activity. These Municipalities are: Bacolod, Tubod, Kolambugan, Magsaysay, Lala, Kapatagan, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Baroy, Sapad, Kauswagan, Linamon, Maigo, and Nunungan.

Mr. Diodie Alota, PWD Provincial Federated President, thanked Governor Angging, Vice-Governor Atay, Honorable Tawantawan, 2nd District Representative, Congressman Abdullah ‘Bobby’ Dimakuta Dimaporo, and 1st District Representative, Congressman Mohamad Khalid Quibranza Dimaporo for continuously including the PWD Sector in their government programs, and appropriating funds for the conduct of activities.

To inspire fellow PWDs, Mr. Joram L. Tesio, PWD Coordinator of the Department of Education-Division of Lanao del Norte, delivered a message of hope, that in spite of being physically impaired, he finished his studies as Magna Cum Laude and performed his duty as a government employee efficiently. He had overcome the struggles in life with the support of his parents and family members. “being a PWD is not a hindrance in achieving our dreams, we shall take this as a challenge and be motivated by it. Let us keep in mind that we can do what other normal people can do.”

The objectives of the activity are: (1) To orient the public and the sector of the Persons with Disabilities that disability is not a hindrance in the development of their social and economic activities, (2) To gain more knowledge on disability prevention, and (3) Camaraderie among its members and show their talents and skills.

The activity is in accordance with Proclamation No. 1870 (1979), as amended by Proclamation No. 361 (2000) and AO # 35, the NDPR Week is being commemorated annually every July 17-23, that aims primarily to stimulate public awareness on the issues and problems of disability, thereby encouraging every citizen of the country to take active responsibility in the upliftment of the economic and social conditions of the PWDs of our society.
