The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Ms. Annabelle S. Mendez and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office headed by Ms. Abeliza Manzano organized a relief distribution to the victims of Tropical Storm Falcon in Fabian Flores Cultural Center, Barangay Maranding, Municipality of Lala.

The Municipality of Lala along with the Municipalities of Kapatagan, Salvador, Sapad, Tubod, and Sultan Naga Dimaporo was flooded when torrential rains poured on July 15 until the next day which caused rivers to overflow and filled the national highway and other low lying areas.

TS Falcon displaced thousands of families as it gradually passes North Mindanao. The Provincial Governor advised the PDRRMO early morning of July 15 to closely monitor the weather and coordinate with the officers of MDRRMO and the volunteers of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) to disseminate information to the residents particularly those who are settling along the rivers and the flood-prone areas to evacuate as soon as possible and seek shelter in the evacuation centers of their municipality.

On August 2, 2019, Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo personally handed kitchen utensils, canned goods and rice including a family kit to each of the 58 families from Barangay Maranding, El Salvador, Pinoyak, Rebe, Darumawang Ilaya, Tenazas, and San Miguel.

“It is our obligation to provide assistance to you. This is part of our pledge as elected public officials. You don’t have to thank us. You are the ones who are paying our salaries. We owe you so much and you deserve this kind of assistance. What I only asked from you is to think about your safety. Please do not stay near the river or in flood-prone areas. We cannot stop it from happening again. We are the only ones destroying mother nature and it is now that we feel its effect. I hope that those illegal quarrying must be stopped before it will cause more damage to the area and to the people’s lives and I encouraged you to plant more trees.”

Governor Angging sincerely thanked Mayor Angel ‘Tata’ Yap for actively supporting the efforts of the Provincial Government and humbly asked the Local Chief Executive to submit the necessary documents to Ms. Mendez to fast track the processing of the financial assistance as well as the provision of roofs to families whose houses were totally damaged under the Poor Shelter Assistance Program.

The Provincial Chief Executive expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the people and officials of Barangay Maranding, the business center of the Municipality of Lala for sustaining unity within their area which drives in attaining prosperity and development not only in the municipality but also to the whole Province of Lanao del Norte, “The Land of Beauty and Bounty.”

And in the afternoon, the officers and personnel of PSWDO and PDRRMO proceeded to the Municipality of Sapad to handover relief goods to 8 families also affected by TS Falcon.

On Saturday (August 3) relief goods were distributed to 35 families in the Municipality of Kapatagan and 12 families in the Municipality of Sultan Naga Dimaporo. PIO-LDN
