On the afternoon of July 15, 2019, torrential rain begins to pour in Lanao del Norte as Cyclone Falcon passes North Mindanao. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately coordinated with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of the Municipalities and mobilized the units to monitor the situation on the ground.
Early morning of the next day, low lying areas are filled with water as the rain continues to pour overnight.
In Barangay Maranding, the business center of the Municipality of Lala, water gradually rises and covers the national highway that causes vehicles to breakdown including motorcycles which resulted to heavy traffic.
The pro-active approach of the Provincial and Municipal DRRMOs in disseminating information to the residents especially in areas near the waterways greatly contributed to the safety and preservation of life and property.
The floodwaters affected the Municipalities of Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Kapatagan, Lala, Sapad, Salvador, and Tubod.
A resident of Barangay Maranding said, “Compared to Typhoon Vinta, Cyclone Falcon happened in day time. We can see and monitor the Maranding River and the rise of water in our community, which give us time to evacuate in safer grounds.”
Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo closely monitors the situation and tasked the concern offices of the Provincial Government to coordinate with the affected Municipal Local Government Units in the distribution of relief goods to the families disrupted by the flood. PIO-LDN
