The second day of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) – 143 Congress like the first day attended by the Municipalities of Kolambugan, Kapatagan, Baroy and Bacolod was also overwhelmed with the great number of volunteers coming from the Municipalities of Kauswagan, Maigo, Matungao, Lala, Linamon and from the capital town of Tubod.

Nearly 5,000 ERU-143 volunteers converged on the second day for the annual assembly organized by the Provincial Government through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross held at the Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium, Sagadan, Municipality of Tubod, Lanao del Norte on April 25, 2019.

Provincial Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo along with Vice Governor Maria Cristina N. Atay and the honorable members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan together with the Father of Peace and Development, 2nd District Representative, Congressman Abdullah ‘Bobby’ Dimakuta Dimaporo and the founder of ERU, the energetic Solon of the 1st Congressional District, Congressman Mohamad Khalid Quibranza Dimaporo, respectively shared inspirational and motivational messages to the modern heroes of the province.

Congressman Bobby expressed his sincerest gratitude to the ERU-143 volunteers for actively keeping their respective communities safe, especially during the recent Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) plebiscite last February of this year. The peacemaker and visionary Congressman urged the volunteers to continue safeguarding the communities for the good of the province and for tomorrow’s children.

While, Congressman Khalid narrated the reason behind the establishment of ERU in the province, it was in the year 2008 when he was then the Governor, the Municipalities of Kolambugan, Kauswagan and Maigo were attacked by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) after the failed MOA-AD, and when the military regain control of these areas, there were no available personnel from the local governments of the affected municipalities to assist and help the injuries and the victims as well as in the distribution of aid from the provincial government, national government and non-governmental organization. The youngest Provincial Chief Executive at that time then decided to create an organization composed of men and women from the barangays that are willing to be volunteers to provide selfless service to their fellow constituents, and later on collaborated with the Philippine Red Cross for integration in its program like the Basic Life Support and other lifesaving training courses with the help of Senator Cynthia Villar.

Governor Angging was proud to see the number of volunteers participated in the two-day congress. With an almost 10,000 ERU-143 volunteers in the province and three additional municipalities have expressed their intention to join. “The increasing number of volunteers is an indication that ERU-143 effectively serves its purpose by actively serving the people of the province when man-made or natural calamity or disaster strikes as seen during Typhoon Vinta and the recently held BOL plebiscite,” said the grateful Governor.
