The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte through the Provincial Health Office organized the 1st Provincial Health Summit in the province with the theme, “Bridging Gaps, Crossing Frontiers towards Sustainable Health for All” on March 21, 2019 at the Gymnasium of Mindanao Civic Center Sports Complex, Sagadan, Municipality of Tubod.

PHO Head, Dr. Melania A. Untao, welcomed all health advocates of the province for giving time to participate in the first ever assembly to recognize and celebrate the contributions of the community health workers, as well as the participation of the local government units to help sustain the various health programs in their locality.

Dr. Untao expressed her gratitude to Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo for the unwavering support extended to her office. Governor Angging has backed all programs, projects and activities of the Provincial Health Office to the barangays in line with national government’s program through the Regional Office of the Department of Health.

In implementing one of the programs of the national government, the PHO together with the Provincial Department of Health Office headed by Dr. Jovette S. Guinal, collaborated to strengthen the Zero Open Defecation program. In fact last year, Governor Angging spearheaded the distribution of toilet bowls to help address the problems in health and nutrition in some barangays. Open defecation is one of the primary causes of cholera, diarrhoea, worm infections, and other diseases which affect the health of a person and also interrupt the person’s growth.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member, Honorable Harris U. Ali, emphasized the importance of the First 1000 Days. From conception up to the second birthday of the child. This period is essential to the person’s intellectual development and lifelong health. In this stage, proper nutrition must be provided to the mother and to the child even after birth in order to have strong immune system, healthy growth and healthier brain development.

Vice Governor, Honorable Maria Cristina N. Atay, recognized the important role of the community health practitioners in the implementation of all health programs of the government.

On behalf of Governor Angging, Vice Governor Cristy, encouraged all health professionals to continue serving the people of their respective communities. “Treat those who are in need of your help with dignity and respect, think of them as your family. As public servants, we should continue to excel in caring and providing health services to the people of our community.”

Dr. David Mendoza, Chief of Local Health Support Division-DOH CHDNM, speaking on behalf of Regional Director Dr. Nimfa B. Torrizo, expressed his thanks to the good governance of Governor Angging. Congressman Khalid, Congressman Bobby, Vice Governor Cristy, Honorable Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the Municipal Mayors for actively supporting the programs of the Department of Health in achieving healthy community by empowering the community health workers of the province and by constantly collaborating and coordinating with DOH and with other national government offices and its line agencies through the Provincial Health Office and Municipal Health Offices.

In recognition of the achievements of the community health workers, the Provincial Government with the assistance of DOH handed over Certificate of Appreciations and items that are essential in the performance of their duties as frontline health care service providers of their community. PIO-LDN
