Tubod, Lanao del Norte. The Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte together with its Municipal Government continuously works hand in hand with the security units in the province in order to ensure and maintain the peace and security by regularly conducting the Provincial Peace and Order Council Meeting. PPOC Meeting is a time where the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) presents updates and information regarding the current security situations and consolidate solutions with the council members in preserving the peace and order of the province.
In her constant drive of protecting the constituents of the peaceful province, Governor Imelda ‘Angging’ Quibranza-Dimaporo frequently initiates meeting with the council members comprises of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members headed by Vice Governor Maria Cristina N. Atay, Municipal Mayors, Officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
On February 13, 2019, the Provincial Chief Executive called for a PPOC meeting held at Riana’s Snack Inn within the complex of Mindanao Civic Center in Pigcarangan, Municipality of Tubod to hear the situation updates presented by the PNP and the AFP with regards to the recently concluded plebiscite for Yes or No to inclusion of the six (6) Municipalities to Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. 2nd District Representative, Congressman Abdullah ‘Bobby’ Dimakuta Dimaporo was also in attendance to personally hear the updates and shared personal insights that could help sustain the peace and unity between the Muslims and Christians residing in Lanao del Norte.
The PNP and the AFP declared that the plebiscite on February 6 was peaceful though there were cases of harassment to supporters of No to inclusion in some municipalities. In the entire province the conduct of the plebiscite was generally peaceful and successful as well as orderly.
According to Governor Angging though there were lapses from the PNP guarding the precincts particularly in the Municipality of Salvador where the supporters of No were reportedly mauled by individuals favouring the inclusion and some other untoward incidents in the Municipalities of Tubod, Lala, Sultan Naga Dimaporo and Kauswagan, the PNP still deserves to be recognized for their deed in safeguarding the people of their respective municipalities, same with the AFP under the Command of Brigadier General Thomas R Sedano, Jr.
Governor Angging also recognized the contribution of the teachers of the Department of Education – Division of Lanao del Norte through the active Schools Division Superintendent Roy Angelo Gazo for rendering their duties in the plebiscite as Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) in spite of the risk at hand.
And for the AFP, Col Alex Aduca representing Brigadier General Sedano, Jr. provides assurance that the Philippine Army is always on top of the situation and at all times ready to respond to any scenario that would threaten the lives of the people, and the peace and security of the Province of Lanao del Norte.
Col Aduca added that residents should not be afraid and not to evacuate for the AFP is constantly monitoring the boundaries of the province together with the Philippine Air Force and the Philippine Coast Guard.
Governor Angging agrees with Col Aduca that any unverified information threatening the peace and security of the province should not be entertained and most importantly not to be forwarded to anybody unless it comes from the PNP or from the AFP, for it will only cause confusion and panic to the residents.
Before concluding the meeting, the Provincial Chief Executive expressed her gratitude to the Barangay Chairmen for initiating plans to encourage their constituents to vote and securing their precincts discouraging flying voters to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the plebiscite. PIO-LDN
